Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar has announced that additional houses have been allocated to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He said the Centre has allocated five lakh houses to the two Telugu states out of a total of two crore houses. Andhra Pradesh has been allotted three lakh houses, while Telangana has been allocated two lakh houses. Pemmasani thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the allocations. He said the Centre is providing ₹1.75 lakh for the construction of each house.
Pemmasani also criticised the previous YSR Congress government in Andhra Pradesh, alleging that it failed to complete the houses sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He said that although the Centre had sanctioned 1.75 lakh houses during the tenure of Jagan Mohan Reddy, construction was taken up for only 42,000 houses. He further stated that the Telangana government had requested the Centre to allocate houses to the state under the housing scheme this year.
