Reliance Industries Limited, led by Mukesh Ambani, is expanding its business footprint with a major focus on artificial intelligence-powered data centers. The company announced through a post on X that it plans to invest ₹10 lakh crore over the next seven years to develop large-scale AI data center infrastructure across India.
Reliance has already transformed itself from a refining and petrochemicals company into a global player in energy, digital services, retail, media, and green energy technologies. Ambani had hinted at these investments during the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi in February this year, stating that the move is aimed at supporting India's long-term economic growth and strategic needs.
With several global technology firms looking at India as part of their “China Plus One” strategy, Reliance is positioning itself to provide critical AI infrastructure. In addition to AI data centers, the company is also exploring lignite-based underground gasification projects and has signed an agreement with NLC India to assess opportunities for such projects in Gujarat.
