Indian equity markets were trading sharply lower on Wednesday as renewed tensions in West Asia and a surge in crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment. At around 9:31 am, the Sensex was down 703 points at 76,262, while the Nifty declined 232 points to trade at 23,823.
Among Nifty stocks, Coal India, Sun Pharma, ONGC and Larsen were trading in positive territory. Infosys, Eicher Motors, Shriram Finance, Wipro and M&M were among the major laggards. Investors remained cautious amid developments in West Asia and movements in global crude oil prices.
