E-commerce giant Flipkart is gearing up to enter the food delivery segment, aiming to compete with established players Swiggy and Zomato. The company is preparing to launch its services in Bengaluru before August 15, marking its first entry into the sector. As part of the rollout, Flipkart has already begun onboarding restaurants. While existing platforms charge commissions ranging from 16 to 30 percent, Flipkart is offering a lower commission of around 10 percent to attract partners.
The company plans to initially test the service in Bengaluru before expanding it across the country. Shortly after Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy announced the plan, the company accelerated its preparations. Flipkart is expected to introduce a dedicated food delivery app alongside its main platform. With Zomato and Swiggy currently dominating the market and Rapido recently entering the space, Flipkart’s entry is likely to intensify competition in the food delivery industry.
