The State Bank of India (SBI) has reported that a cyberattack exposed the personal records of 3,897 customers, with the information reportedly appearing on the dark web. The compromised data includes customers’ names, mobile numbers, dates of birth, residential addresses and email IDs. SBI said it received an alert about the incident from its threat intelligence service provider, the Defence Cyber Agency and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).
SBI has clarified that the incident is not expected to have a significant impact on the bank’s financial transactions and that its business operations continue as usual. Although some customer records were reportedly exposed, the bank said a comprehensive investigation is necessary to assess the extent of the data breach and its potential impact on both customers and the institution. The investigation is currently underway, and SBI has stated that appropriate action will be taken once it is completed.
