The Indian government said it is closely monitoring developments related to the US legislation imposing additional sanctions on Russia. The US Congress has passed legislation that could allow tariffs of up to 100% on countries purchasing Russian energy. Against this backdrop, India has reiterated that ensuring the country’s energy security remains a key priority.
The government said India would continue to secure its energy requirements through diversified sources, taking evolving market conditions into account. It also stated that the issue had been discussed at high levels with US interlocutors in recent months. India has conveyed its concerns regarding the potential impact of the legislation on bilateral ties with the US and the stability of the international energy market, while asserting that it will take necessary measures to protect its trade and economic interests.
