OpenAI has reportedly ended its internal “code red” phase nearly four months after it was first declared by chief executive Sam Altman in December 2025. During this period, the company paused several projects that were not related to ChatGPT in order to focus entirely on improving the chatbot. Since then, the San Francisco based artificial intelligence company has released three new AI models and introduced several new features for its popular chatbot.
According to reports, the company-wide emergency focus was lifted after the release of the GPT 5.4 AI model earlier this week. Sources indicated that the temporary strategy mainly affected the ChatGPT and product research teams, while long-term research divisions continued their work normally. With this phase now over, OpenAI is expected to broaden its focus and continue developing other products and initiatives, including possible updates for the Sora application.
Meanwhile, OpenAI has reportedly delayed the launch of ChatGPT’s Adult Mode feature for the second time. The company said the feature has been postponed as it prioritises improvements related to intelligence, personality upgrades, personalisation, and making the chatbot more proactive. Although the feature was originally announced in October 2025 and planned for release later that year, its launch timeline remains uncertain.
