Google is reportedly testing an expansion of its Personal Intelligence feature into NotebookLM, its AI-powered research and note-taking platform. According to reports, this capability would allow NotebookLM conversations to adapt to user preferences by learning from chat history and custom instructions. If officially rolled out, this would mark the second major expansion of Personal Intelligence after its recent addition to Google Search’s AI Mode, further strengthening Google’s personalised AI ecosystem.
As per TestingCatalog, code references suggest that Personal Intelligence could operate at two levels within NotebookLM — a global setting across the platform and individual customisation for each notebook. This may allow users to define an overall AI persona while fine-tuning responses for specific projects. However, the feature currently appears more focused on persona customisation rather than deep data integration with services like Gmail or Gemini memory. Since the findings are based on code snippets, Google’s final implementation may differ or may not launch at all until an official announcement is made.
