Google is reportedly working on expanding Gemini’s split screen functionality to regular smartphones, moving beyond its earlier limitation to foldable devices and tablets. This upgrade aims to let users run Gemini alongside another app, enabling smoother multitasking on standard handsets as well.
According to a report by Android Authority, the feature was tested on a Pixel 9 running a newer Google app build, where Gemini could operate side by side with another application. A new option labeled “Share screen and app content” appears, allowing the AI assistant to view what’s happening in the second app and respond to user queries based on that content.
The feature behaves differently depending on the app being used. If paired with a web browser, Gemini can analyze the page using its URL, while in non web apps it captures a screenshot to interpret on screen information. The rollout appears limited for now, as the feature was not visible on several other devices, including the recently launched iQOO 15, suggesting a gradual expansion that has yet to be officially confirmed.
