OpenAI has introduced a new security feature called ‘Lockdown Mode’ for ChatGPT, aimed at protecting users and organisations from prompt injection attacks. The optional feature is designed to reduce the risk of sensitive information being exposed through malicious instructions hidden in web pages, files, or documents. According to OpenAI, Lockdown Mode will be available across personal, business, and enterprise ChatGPT accounts.
When enabled, Lockdown Mode restricts several internet-dependent capabilities. Features such as Deep Research and Agent Mode become unavailable, while web browsing is limited to cached content. File downloads for analysis are also blocked, although manual uploads remain supported. OpenAI clarified that memory, image generation, and conversation sharing continue to function normally, ensuring users retain access to core ChatGPT experiences.
