Top seed Aryna Sabalenka moved one step closer to winning the US Open women’s singles title for a third consecutive year. The world No. 1 from Belarus advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Townsend in the fourth round on Sunday.
Sabalenka won the match in straight sets, beating Townsend 6-4, 6-3. With the victory, she continued her strong campaign at the tournament and kept her bid for a third straight US Open title on track.
