After a brief break, Team India is set to resume its international campaign with a tour of New Zealand, beginning with the first T20 match on Thursday. Led by Shreyas, India faces a challenging series against a strong New Zealand side captained by Mitchell Santner. India’s recent T20 performances have been mixed, with defeats against Ireland and England early in Shreyas’s captaincy and a 2–2 draw against the West Indies at home. New Zealand, meanwhile, boasts an explosive batting line-up featuring Finn Allen, Tim Seifert and Glenn Phillips, alongside experienced players such as Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell. Santner and Michael Bracewell add depth with both bat and ball, while the pace attack includes Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Kyle Jamieson and Nathan Smith.
Veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is expected to be one of the major attractions after returning to the Indian team following a four-year absence. His consistent performances in the IPL and domestic cricket helped earn him another opportunity, and India will look to his swing bowling on New Zealand’s conditions. Arshdeep Singh is likely to share the new ball, while Prince Yadav and spinner Varun Chakravarthy are competing for a place in the playing XI. Axar Patel will lead the spin attack, while India’s batting options include Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube and Nitish Kumar Reddy. The pitch is expected to support both batting and pace bowling, with no rain threat forecast for the match. India’s predicted XI may feature a choice between Prince Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy.
