Richa Ghosh created history as she smashed an explosive 94 off 77 balls during the Women’s ODI World Cup match against South Africa. Her remarkable innings became the highest-ever score by any cricketer batting at No. 8 or below in an ODI World Cup match — across both men’s and women’s categories. Earlier, the women’s record was held by India’s Pooja Vastrakar (67 vs Pakistan in 2022), while the men’s record belonged to Australia’s Nathan Coulter-Nile (92 vs West Indies in 2019). Richa also became the first Indian player to score over 80 runs in a World Cup match from that position, surpassing Ravindra Jadeja’s 77 against New Zealand in 2019.
In the same match, Nadine de Klerk played a stunning knock of 84 not out off 54 balls to lead South Africa to a thrilling three-wicket win over India. Her innings, supported by Laura Wolvaardt’s 70, helped the visitors chase down India’s 251 in 48.5 overs. Richa Ghosh’s fiery innings, which included four sixes and eleven fours, had earlier lifted India from a tough position at 102-6 to a competitive total. Despite the loss, India remains third in the standings with two wins from three matches, while South Africa climbed to fourth. India will next face defending champions Australia on Sunday.
