Pakistan Cricket in Crisis.. PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi Plans Major Overhaul After Series Losses

Pakistan cricket is going through a difficult phase following a string of disappointing results. The team recently suffered a humiliating whitewash in the three-match Test series in England after failing to put up a strong fight. The setbacks have reportedly angered Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi. Despite changes made after the first two Tests, including the removal of several members of the coaching setup and players, Pakistan could not prevent another defeat. The team has also slipped to the bottom of the World Test Championship standings after being penalised 11 points for a slow over rate.

Against this backdrop, Naqvi is reportedly considering a major overhaul within the PCB, with several senior officials likely to face the axe. Chief selector Aaqib Javed and women’s team head coach Wahab Riaz are among those whose positions are believed to be under threat, with changes expected after the Asian Games. The PCB is also considering a comprehensive revamp of its coaching staff. Aaqib Javed has been at the centre of several major decisions taken by the board over the past two years, including frequent changes to captains and coaching personnel. His decisions have drawn criticism from former Pakistan players and coaches, with former Test coach Jason Gillespie recently questioning his role in the team’s decline. Pakistan has undergone repeated changes to its selection committee, captaincy and coaching staff in recent years, but the frequent interventions have failed to produce consistent results. Analysts believe that if another major restructuring takes place, the success of the new management will depend on how independently and effectively it handles team selection, coaching and cricketing decisions.
