The Indian women’s recurve team scripted a sensational victory over ten-time Olympic champions South Korea to enter the gold medal match at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 on Thursday. The Indian trio of Ankita Bhakat, Kumkum Anil Mohod, and Deepika Kumari defeated Korea 5-1 in the semifinal to register one of India’s biggest victories in international archery. The Indian team will now face second-seeded China in the final scheduled for Sunday.
However, it was a disappointing outing for India in other recurve and compound events. The Indian men’s recurve team comprising Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Yashdeep Bhoge suffered a 2-6 defeat against Bangladesh in the second round. In the recurve mixed team category, the pair of Dhiraj and Ankita lost narrowly 4-5 to Brazil. Meanwhile, in the compound mixed team quarterfinals, Aditi Swami and Pravin Jadhav went down 156-157 against the United States duo.
