Padikkal scored his maiden Test century and became the first Indian batter to score a Test hundred on Independence Day. His milestone added a unique chapter to Indian cricket history.
Virat Kohli also holds a special Independence Day record, having become the first Indian batter to score a century on the occasion in 2019. He smashed an unbeaten 114 against the West Indies in an ODI in Port of Spain, completing his century in the early hours of August 15 according to Indian time.
