India Begin Asian Games Medal Hunt with Elavenil’s Double Silver

India began its medal campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on a positive note, with shooting producing two silver medals on the opening day of competition. Elavenil Valarivan was at the centre of India’s early success, securing silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event alongside Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod. She then added another silver in the individual event.

In the individual final, Elavenil stayed in contention for the gold for much of the competition with a series of accurate shots. However, Japan’s Hinata Taichi moved ahead in the closing stages and finished with 253.0 points, setting a new Asian Games record. Elavenil finished with 252.4 points, just 0.6 points behind the Japanese shooter. South Korea’s Ban Hyo-jin won bronze with 230.4 points.
