A dominant batting display powered South Africa to their fifth straight victory, knocking Pakistan out of semifinal contention with a 150-run win (DLS method) in a rain-hit encounter at Colombo. Led by Laura Wolvaardt’s classy 90 and brisk fifties from Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp, the Proteas piled up 312 for 9 in a 40-over contest. Nadine de Klerk’s explosive 41 off 16 balls added the finishing touch as rain repeatedly interrupted play.
Despite several DLS adjustments, Pakistan were eventually set a target of 234 in 20 overs but never found rhythm in their chase. Marizanne Kapp dismantled Pakistan’s top order with three crucial wickets as the chase collapsed to 35/4 within 10 overs. Frequent rain delays couldn’t rescue Pakistan, who ended at 83/7 when play finally concluded.
With this win, South Africa not only topped the table but also confirmed their dominance in the tournament. Their consistency with both bat and ball, highlighted by Kapp’s all-round brilliance and Wolvaardt’s leadership, has made them one of the top contenders heading into the semifinals. Pakistan, meanwhile, bowed out of the tournament with another disappointing performance.
