Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw by Democratic Republic of the Congo in a thrilling Group K encounter of the FIFA World Cup. Making their return to the tournament after a 52-year absence, Congo delivered an impressive performance against one of the competition's strongest teams. Portugal took an early lead in the 6th minute when midfielder João Neves converted a precise cross from Pedro Neto with a superb header. However, Congo stunned their opponents in first-half injury time as striker Wissa headed home the equaliser to level the score.
The second half witnessed intense action as both sides pushed for a winning goal. Despite enjoying more than 70 percent possession, Portugal failed to capitalize on their dominance. Portugal managed only three shots on target, while Congo registered two. The match also saw four yellow cards, with three shown to Portuguese players. Much of the attention was on Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo, but the football icon endured a disappointing outing, managing only two shots and failing to make a decisive impact as Congo secured a memorable point.
