Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a key step ahead of India’s upcoming series against Afghanistan, beginning June 6 with a one-off Test followed by a three-match ODI series from June 13. While the squads have already been announced, uncertainty remains over the fitness of senior players Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. The board has reportedly instructed both players to report to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for fitness assessment. Hardik is expected to undergo a week-long rehabilitation program before joining the ODI squad, while clarity on Rohit’s availability is still awaited, raising concerns among fans.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has been named captain for the ODI series against Afghanistan, with key players like Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan included in the squad. As part of preparations for the Test match, BCCI has also selected several young bowlers as net bowlers, including Jammu and Kashmir pacer Aqib Nabi Dar, who impressed in the Ranji Trophy with 60 wickets. Additionally, leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari and others have been picked to help batters prepare against Afghanistan’s strong spin attack.
