BRS leader Harish Rao has strongly criticised Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s remarks on the possible impact of El Niño and the state’s drought situation. Accusing the Congress government of failing to prepare adequately, Harish Rao said the administration should reassure farmers and the public instead of creating fear about potential shortages of drinking water and electricity. He questioned what preventive measures the government had taken over the past six months, despite claiming that people had been alerted to the El Niño threat. Harish Rao also asked why steps had not been taken to improve reservoir storage, utilise available water from the Godavari and Krishna rivers, and prevent power shortages affecting agricultural activities.
Harish Rao urged the state government to announce a comprehensive drought-management plan covering drinking water, irrigation, electricity, fodder and employment. He demanded a white paper detailing reservoir-wise water levels, drinking water requirements, irrigation conditions and funds allocated for drought relief. He also called for compensation for affected farmers and the immediate implementation of farmer and crop insurance schemes. Criticising the government’s response to the crisis, he referred to measures taken during former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s tenure and challenged Revanth Reddy to explain the steps being taken to protect farmers and rural communities. These remarks represent the BRS leader’s political allegations and demands.
