Australian star T20 cricketer Chris Lynn has been handed a one-month suspension after testing positive for a cocaine metabolite. The Cricket Regulator in England officially announced the decision on Friday. The 36-year-old underwent a routine anti-doping test on July 18 during the T20 Blast Finals Day in England, where he was representing Northamptonshire. The test detected a small amount of benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. Lynn admitted the violation and accepted the sanction.
Although the initial penalty could have been three months, the suspension was reduced to one month after Lynn completed a rehabilitation programme. The regulator also determined that the incident was unrelated to sporting performance. The suspension period has already been served. Lynn has represented Australia in 18 T20 Internationals and four ODIs. He has also played in several T20 leagues worldwide, including the IPL, where he represented Deccan Chargers, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. He is the leading run-scorer in Big Bash League history and has recently been linked with a possible move to Melbourne Renegades for the upcoming season. His future in professional cricket has now become a talking point following the revelation.
