Accommodation-related issues surrounding the Indian contingent at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, have drawn attention again. Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak and her coach Ashok Mishra were reportedly assigned the same room aboard the cruise ship being used to accommodate members of the contingent. The unusual allocation was immediately raised with the organisers, but the issue remained unresolved for several hours before the Indian Olympic Association intervened and arranged separate accommodation at around 1:30 a.m.
The confusion continued when Mishra went to collect the keys to his new room and hotel staff could not locate his booking. Officials reportedly found that the letter ‘I’ was missing from his name in the system records. Correcting the details and verifying his accreditation took another 45 minutes, and the coach could reportedly enter his room only after 2 a.m. The incident is among several accommodation and logistical issues reported by athletes since the Indian contingent arrived in Japan.
