Young Indian opener Abhishek Sharma revealed the secret behind his sensational form after producing a destructive batting performance in the third T20I against Afghanistan. In the match held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Abhishek smashed a breathtaking 108 off just 34 balls. He said that his success was largely due to the specific preparation he does before every series, based on the bowlers he is set to face. India went on to win the match by a massive 127 runs and completed a 3-0 series clean sweep.
For his outstanding performance, Abhishek was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series. With this innings, he also created records for the fastest T20I half-century by an Indian and the fastest century by a batter representing a Full Member nation.Speaking after the match, Abhishek explained his approach: “Everything depends on the process I follow before every series. I focus on who I am playing against and which bowlers I am going to face. I prepare specifically for how to make the most of the powerplay and which bowlers are likely to bowl during that phase. That is my personal process.”
Talking about India’s aggressive batting approach, Abhishek said, “We have been playing in this manner for the last two years. Just because we fail in one or two series does not mean our batting unit becomes weak. Our aim is to dominate, irrespective of the opposition. Ups and downs are a natural part of the game. But the positive atmosphere in the dressing room is very important. We stay together as one unit and focus on the next game.”Abhishek also credited the freedom and clarity provided by the captain and coaching staff for allowing him to play such an aggressive brand of cricket.
“Such a style of play is possible only when you have complete backing from the management. Their support is the reason we have been playing this way over the last few years, and we will continue to do so in the future,” he said.Explaining his batting philosophy, Abhishek added, “My simple strategy is to watch the ball and play according to it. I don't want to restrict myself. I want to play my game freely. Instead of trying to hit the ball forcefully, I just watch it and try to hit it.”During the post-match presentation, Abhishek also won hearts by wishing a fan in the stadium a happy birthday, showcasing his warm and thoughtful side.
