Komal (Vishwak Sen) is the director of a film titled Funky. As the production budget keeps increasing, the producer (Naresh Vijayakrishna) faces health issues, prompting his daughter Chitra (Kayadu Lohar) to step in and take control. She decides to replace Komal to complete the remaining shoot. What follows and whether Komal regains his position form the core plot.
Vishwak Sen steps away from his usual mass image and delivers a decent performance in a comedy-oriented role. His quirky one-liners are neatly delivered and bring occasional laughs. Kayadu Lohar looks graceful and performs well as the producer’s daughter. Their chemistry works in parts. A few jokes in both halves manage to click, and the relatively short runtime works slightly in the film’s favor.
The biggest drawback of Funky is its lack of coherence. The film feels like a series of random scenes stitched together without a clear narrative flow. Despite promotional claims asking audiences to ignore logic, the film struggles to engage consistently. Unlike Jathi Rathnalu, which had forward momentum despite its silliness, Funky lacks direction and emotional depth. The emotional portions toward the end fail to leave an impact. The songs are underwhelming, and the dubbing appears inconsistent in several scenes. The Sampath Raj track feels unnecessary.
Bheems Ceciroleo’s music is average, with songs that fail to impress. Suresh Sarangam’s cinematography is colorful and visually pleasing. Production values are decent. Navin Nooli’s editing appears choppy, though the randomness of scenes contributes significantly to this issue. Director Anudeep KV focuses heavily on one-liners but neglects structured comedy blocks and a solid screenplay.
Overall, Funky is a below-par comedy drama that lacks a proper storyline and emotional connect. While Vishwak Sen and Kayadu Lohar perform well, the weak screenplay and disjointed narration make it a disappointing outing from Anudeep KV.
