Tensions in West Asia have intensified once again as the United States and Iran reportedly exchanged military strikes, raising security concerns across the Gulf region. According to Iranian military statements, Tehran launched missiles targeting multiple US military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation for American airstrikes on Iranian air defence systems and coastal surveillance facilities following attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed the operation targeted 85 strategic US military sites and also alleged that an American MQ-9 drone was shot down over Bushehr.
The United States, meanwhile, stated that it carried out one of its largest military operations against Iran, reportedly striking more than 80 targets with precision attacks. According to US Central Command, the operation focused on Iran's command-and-control networks, coastal radar installations, anti-ship missile capabilities and air defence systems, while also claiming the destruction of several IRGC boats. Iranian officials strongly condemned the strikes, accusing Washington of violating the ceasefire and asserting that Tehran would continue to respond to what it described as acts of aggression, further escalating tensions in the region.
