BJP National General Secretary Smriti Irani has stepped up her criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the political controversy surrounding the Jantar Mantar protest. Irani questioned why Gandhi did not come forward for a discussion when the Union Home Minister had publicly expressed his willingness to engage on the issues being raised. She asked whether the Congress leader was prepared to take up the opportunity for a direct discussion.
Irani also questioned the Congress’s response to protests and political issues in different states. Referring to Jharkhand, Kerala and Punjab, she asked why similar demands and political pressure were not being pursued there. Her remarks have added to the ongoing BJP-Congress confrontation, with both parties continuing to challenge each other over their handling of protests, students’ concerns and political priorities. Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, has separately raised concerns over student protests and urged Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to personally engage with protesting students.
