Washington: The US House of Representatives has approved a massive $901 billion defense bill for this fiscal year. The bill will now move to the Senate for final approval, which is expected within a week. Officially known as the “National Defense Authorization Act,” the bill focuses on strengthening the US military.
It includes salary hikes for soldiers, faster weapons procurement and other defense improvements. Recently, US defense forces conducted over 20 operations in the Caribbean Sea targeting boats involved in drug smuggling. The bill directs that until the videos of these operations are shown to the House, 25% of Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth’s travel budget will be withheld.
Additionally, the bill allocates $400 million annually for the next two years to support Ukraine with weapons. It also states that at least 76,000 US troops must remain stationed in Europe and 28,500 in South Korea. However, the bill cuts $16 billion from funds meant for climate change programs.
