Sheikh Hasina Could Be Arrested Upon Return From India - Bangladesh Minister

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently staying in India, has reiterated in recent interviews that she intends to return to Bangladesh in the near future. Responding to her remarks, Bangladesh Law Minister Asaduzzaman said Hasina has the right to return to her country, but she could be arrested immediately upon arrival under the provisions of the law. He stated that legal procedures would be followed and that authorities would act within the framework of the law.

When asked how Hasina could return after her passport had reportedly been cancelled by the previous interim government, the minister said that was her own concern. Meanwhile, Hasina told a news agency that she was prepared to face arrest, imprisonment or even death if she returned to Bangladesh. She said she remained determined to go back, adding that her supporters were waiting for her. According to media reports, she is expected to consult her supporters before deciding on the timing of her return, which she has indicated could be around December.
