BRS MLAs and MLCs staged a protest at Gun Park over the shortage of cooking gas in the state. On this occasion, BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao stated that the ongoing conflict between Iran, Israel and the United States has led to a rise in gas shortages across the country. He remarked that common and middle-class people are bearing the brunt of the situation, comparing it to “the weak suffering in the clash of the powerful.”
He noted that people across the country are being forced to stand in long queues at LPG distribution centers. While the Central Government claims that there is no shortage and that adequate stocks are available, he criticized this stance, stating that the ground reality reflects otherwise. He added that although petroleum and gas fall under the purview of the Centre, the prevailing conditions indicate a shortage in the state. He further alleged that after the completion of elections in five states, the Centre is planning to reduce the cylinder size from May 4, lowering it from 12 kg to 10 kg. He accused both the Central and State Governments of burdening the middle class. He also mentioned that even in his own household, obtaining a gas cylinder has become difficult and that the issue is being widely discussed in every home.
Despite the challenges in Iran, he demanded that gas should be sourced from alternative countries to ensure uninterrupted supply. He called upon the State Government to provide clarity on the issue and announced that adjournment motions would be moved in both the Legislative Assembly and Council. He asserted that they would insist on a discussion and raise the voice of the people in the legislature.
