Italy–US Diplomatic Row Over Trump’s Remarks

His remarks triggered strong reactions in Italy, with Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani cancelling his scheduled visit to the United States in protest.

Italian leaders across the political spectrum expressed solidarity with Meloni, calling Trump’s statement inappropriate. Meloni responded with a video statement rejecting the claim as entirely false, saying she was surprised by the remarks.
