The internal crisis within Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK is reportedly intensifying, with rival factions allegedly working to challenge party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s leadership. Reports suggest that supporters of S.P. Velumani and C.V. Shanmugam are exploring strategies to strengthen their influence, while around 100 supporters of Shanmugam were reportedly expelled from the party. Amid these tensions and the party’s reported electoral setbacks, speculation has emerged that actor Dhanush could be considering a political entry through AIADMK. Political observers cited in the reports believe that building an independent voter base would be challenging for the actor without a strong grassroots network, prompting speculation that an established party could offer a more practical route into politics.
According to reports, Palaniswami is exploring the possibility of bringing Dhanush into AIADMK to attract younger voters and strengthen the party’s position against actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Sources quoted in the reports claim that preliminary discussions have taken place between Dhanush and Palaniswami’s son, Mithun, on three occasions. There is also speculation that Dhanush could be offered a senior organisational role, such as joint general secretary or youth wing secretary. Former minister Rajendra Balaji has reportedly welcomed the possibility of Dhanush joining the party. However, these claims about Dhanush’s political plans, the proposed discussions and a possible role remain unconfirmed. Some political observers have also speculated about a possible BJP strategy behind the reported move, but no verified evidence has been presented to establish such a connection.
