On Wednesday, CM Chandrababu chaired a Road Safety Council meeting at the Secretariat. He reviewed road safety agencies, state road safety funds, crash barriers, and driver training programs at the state and district levels. He instructed that progress reviews should be conducted every three months.
So far, 15,462 road accidents have caused 6,433 deaths, with most accidents involving two-wheelers. Officials reported that 79% of accidents are due to speeding, 3% due to wrong-side driving, and 1% due to alcohol or mobile phone use.
The CM directed strict actions including installation of speed governors, CCTV cameras, control rooms, modern driving training centers, proper road markings, crash barriers, and action against unauthorized vehicle modifications. Vehicles should be seized after warnings, 108 ambulance coordination for accident victims ensured, and annual road safety awareness programs conducted.
