A tragic incident was reported from Kothagattu village in Shankarapatnam mandal of Karimnagar district, where the wife of a rice mill owner allegedly died by suicide due to mounting debts and business losses. According to police, Tanuku Suresh and his wife Swapna (42) run a rice mill located on the outskirts of Molangur in the mandal. During 2021–2022, the government allotted paddy to their mill under the custom milling rice scheme. However, unseasonal rains damaged the paddy, resulting in heavy financial losses.
With rising debts and increasing pressure from banks to clear the dues, the family reportedly faced severe financial stress. Distressed by the situation, Swapna allegedly hanged herself in the bathroom of her house on Friday morning. The couple has two daughters, of whom the elder daughter is married while the younger daughter works in a private company in Hyderabad. Police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by Suresh and initiated an investigation.
