The United States’ stringent immigration policies under President Donald Trump are significantly impacting countries like India and China, according to a report by The Washington Post. The report highlights that around 250,000 fewer visas were issued in 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, reflecting a notable decline in approvals.
Data released by the US State Department indicates that between January and August 2025, there was an 11 percent drop in both permanent and temporary visas compared to the previous year. These visas typically cover students, skilled workers, and family members of legal residents, excluding tourist visas. Officials stated that Trump’s “America First” approach continues to shape these decisions, with a strong emphasis on national security and stricter vetting of foreign applicants before granting entry.
