Five people lost their lives in a devastating fire that broke out at a furniture showroom in Nampally. Fire Department Director General Vikram Singh Mann stated that the bodies were shifted to Osmania Hospital mortuary. He said fire personnel reached the spot within two minutes of receiving the emergency call. The fire originated in the basement, where furniture materials, resin, and chemicals were illegally stored, leading to rapid spread of flames and delaying rescue operations. Staircases and ramp exits were blocked due to stored materials, trapping those inside.
DG Vikram Singh Mann emphasized that basements must be used strictly for parking purposes and not for storage under any circumstances. He warned that strict action will be taken against building owners and shop operators who violate safety norms. Nearly 200 fire and rescue personnel worked overnight during the rescue operations. The fire may have been caused by a short circuit or a cigarette. While the building structure was found to be stable, the basement was misused and no fire department approvals were obtained during construction.
