As part of its long-term development vision, the Telangana government has decided to restructure the police administration by dividing it into four commissionerates, covering the reorganised GHMC area and the proposed Future City. The decision aligns with the Vision 2047 document, unveiled at the Telangana Rising Global Summit on the 9th of this month, which aims to transform Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047. Under this vision, the state has been categorised into CURE, PURE, and RARE regions, each with a dedicated development strategy. Legal amendments were also made to merge 27 municipalities within the ORR into GHMC, enabling planned urban growth. The GHMC area has now been reorganised into 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards.
To enhance public service delivery, law and order, and crime control, the government has reorganised the existing police structure into Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City Commissionerates. Key areas such as the Assembly, Secretariat, Begumpet, Shamshabad Airport, and Budwel High Court fall under the Hyderabad Commissionerate, while major IT and industrial hubs like Gachibowli, Financial District, Madhapur, Raidurg, Patancheru, Genome Valley, and RC Puram come under Cyberabad. The former Rachakonda Commissionerate has been restructured as Malkajgiri Commissionerate, covering areas like Keesara, Shamirpet, Quthbullapur, and Kompally. A separate commissionerate has been created for the rapidly developing Future City, covering Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, Maheshwaram, and Ibrahimpatnam. The government has issued orders appointing Police Commissioners for the four commissionerates and an SP for Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
