Major Indian airports are facing an acute shortage of staff at immigration counters, leading to long queues and delays for international arrivals. Indian citizens and OCI card holders are often forced to wait for hours, even at peak times, highlighting weak planning in a critical government function.
The arrival experience remains tiring, with passengers at airports in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai required to walk long distances to reach pickup points. Even business class travellers face inconvenience due to poor parking systems, despite the availability of large airport land parcels.
Excessive commercialization has further worsened congestion, with arrival areas resembling shopping malls rather than transit zones. Aggressive duty-free sales and lack of regulation harm passenger comfort and India’s image, calling for urgent intervention by the aviation ministry.
