Veteran NASA astronaut Sunita Williams participated in a programme held in New Delhi, where she spoke on the theme “Eyes on the Stars, Feet on the Ground.” Sharing her personal experiences, she said space travel completely transformed her outlook on life. Viewing Earth from space, she explained, made her realise how insignificant human conflicts are, adding that arguments over small issues appear meaningless when seen from such a vast perspective.
Williams recalled that astronauts often try to locate their homes while looking at Earth from orbit. With her father being of Indian origin and her mother from Slovenia, she initially searched for those regions. However, she eventually understood that Earth is truly one planet. Describing the breathtaking view of oceans, seasons, and polar regions, she said the experience instils a sense of unity and shared responsibility. Sunita Williams served at NASA for nearly 30 years, travelled to space three times, and spent a total of 608 days aboard the International Space Station, including several spacewalks.
