Former Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma and Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur have been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri Award for their outstanding contributions to Indian cricket. Legendary tennis player Vijay Amarnath was conferred the Padma Bhushan for his remarkable service to Indian sports. With this honour, Rohit and Harmanpreet join the elite list of over 40 Indian cricketers who have previously received Padma awards.
Harmanpreet Kaur created history by becoming the first Indian woman captain to win an ICC World Cup, leading India to the 2025 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma delivered one of the most successful captaincy phases in Indian cricket, guiding the team to two ICC titles within nine months, including the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. Rohit has scored 4,301 runs in 67 Tests, 11,577 runs in 282 ODIs, and 4,231 runs in 159 T20Is, and remains the only batter in history with three ODI double centuries, cementing his legacy as one of India’s greatest modern-day cricketers.
