West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have recorded their highest ever voter turnout since Independence in the latest elections. Tamil Nadu witnessed a turnout of 84.69%, while West Bengal (Phase I) recorded 91.78%. Previously, the highest turnout was 78.29% in Tamil Nadu and 84.72% in West Bengal, both in 2011.
Notably, in both states, women voters outnumbered men in participation. Officials stated that the strong turnout, especially among women, reflects a growing strength of democratic engagement.
