Amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, crude oil supply from Iran to India has resumed after a long gap. A large Iranian tanker named Dorena is arriving at the Indian coast with around 2 million barrels of crude oil.
According to tanker tracking systems, the ship has reached near India’s southern coast. The Iranian consulate in Hyderabad also confirmed its arrival. This shipment will be delivered to a refinery on the southern coast of India. This is the third oil tanker from Iran in the past week alone, bringing the total crude oil imports from Iran to nearly 6 million barrels in a short period.
This supply is significant because it is happening despite ongoing US restrictions and geopolitical tensions. After 2019, India had stopped importing crude oil from Iran due to American sanctions. However, with recent easing of restrictions, Indian refineries have restarted purchases. This marks the return of Iranian oil supply to India after almost seven years.
