A key development has emerged in the quick commerce sector, with companies preparing to withdraw the 10-minute delivery commitment. Reports suggest that Blinkit, owned by Zomato, has already decided to discontinue the ultra-fast delivery promise. Other quick commerce platforms are also expected to follow suit. These steps are reportedly being taken in line with Central Government directives aimed at ensuring the safety, protection, and better working conditions of gig workers.
The move follows recent nationwide protests by gig workers demanding the removal of the quick delivery model and improved labour safeguards. In response, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya held discussions with representatives of major platforms including Zepto and Swiggy Instamart. During these talks, companies were reportedly persuaded to drop the 10-minute delivery norm. Meanwhile, AAP MP Raghav Chadha had earlier raised the issue in Parliament, alleging that gig workers were subjected to extreme pressure to meet unrealistic deadlines and demanding a ban on such practices.
