The Commonwealth Speakers’ Conference was held in New Delhi, with Narendra Modi attending the event as the Chief Guest. Welcoming the delegates, the Prime Minister highlighted the historical significance of the venue, noting that several landmark discussions had taken place in the same building, which has now been renamed Samvidhan Sadan.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister underlined the vital role of the Speaker in a democratic system. He observed that while the Speaker holds a position of great responsibility and authority, the role demands attentive listening rather than frequent speaking. His remarks emphasised the Speaker’s duty to uphold democratic values, ensure fairness, and maintain the dignity of legislative institutions.
