Phase I Census to Begin from April, Notification Released

The Government of India has announced that Phase I of the Census of India 2027 will commence in April 2026. This phase will focus on the Houselisting and Housing Census, which aims to collect detailed information on residential buildings, households, and housing-related facilities across the country.

According to the notification, the houselisting operations will be conducted from 1 April 2026 to 30 September 2026 in all States and Union Territories, over a 30-day period fixed by each State or UT. Citizens will also be given the option of self-enumeration for a period of 15 days before the start of the house-to-house survey. The entire process will be carried out digitally using mobile applications.
