Tirumala Venkateswara Temple continues to receive large amounts of demonetised currency in its hundi, creating concern for Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Devotees are still offering old ₹500 and ₹1000 notes that were invalidated during the 2016 Indian demonetisation. Reports indicate that over ₹400 crore worth of such notes are lying unused.
Despite repeated appeals, TTD has not received approval from the Reserve Bank of India or the central government to exchange these notes. This has resulted in huge funds remaining idle, leading to financial concerns. Devotees are urging authorities to act quickly.
