The temple management of Kanipakam Varasiddhi Vinayaka Temple has decided to build a new temple tank to improve facilities during major temple events. Although the temple has wide streets on three sides, the existing tank located in front of the temple has been creating difficulties for vehicle processions during Brahmotsavam celebrations. To solve this issue, the current tank will be filled, and a new one will be constructed nearby.
The new tank will be built about 60 feet away from the Supatha Mandapam at an estimated cost of ₹3.40 crore. Some nearby buildings will be removed to make space for the construction. The Endowments Department has already granted approval for the project.
Temple authorities plan to invite tenders by the end of this month and begin construction immediately. The aim is to complete the project and make the new tank available before this year’s Brahmotsavam.
The current tank measures 140 feet in length, 140 feet in width, and 12 feet in depth. The new tank will also be constructed with the same dimensions. Stones from the existing tank will be reused, and additional decorative elements will be added.
Old stone pillars from the temple will be used around the tank to highlight traditional temple architecture. A stone Neerajana Mandapam will be constructed in the middle of the tank, where an idol of Lord Vinayaka will be installed.
Entry steps and barricades will be built on all four sides for devotees. Special systems will be installed to maintain clean water in the tank. Decorative lighting will also be arranged around the tank so that the area looks attractive during the night.
