The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has expressed happiness over the issuance of a gazette notification by Indian Railways establishing the South Coast Railway Zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters. He described it as a long-cherished dream of the people of the state finally becoming a reality. The zone is set to begin official operations from June 1, 2026, marking a significant milestone in regional infrastructure development.
As part of the reorganization of the Waltair Division, key sections such as Palasa–Ichchapuram will be merged into the Visakhapatnam Division. This move is expected to transform the transportation landscape of North Andhra. Improved coordination between the newly formed Visakhapatnam and Rayagada divisions will further strengthen railway operations and contribute to industrial growth in the region. The Chief Minister also thanked Narendra Modi and Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support in achieving this historic milestone.
