A major accident occurred during the prestigious Jallikattu celebrations held as part of the Sankranti festivities in Tamil Nadu. The event, which began with great enthusiasm in Madurai, turned chaotic as aggressive bulls charged into the arena, leaving 52 people injured. According to medical officials, the condition of 10 injured persons remains critical. From the very start of the event, the speed and force of the bulls overwhelmed several participants attempting to tame them.
Among the injured were 27 bull tamers who sustained injuries while trying to control the bulls, along with 20 bull owners hurt during handling and entry procedures. Seven spectators seated in the gallery also suffered minor injuries. All the injured were initially shifted to on-site medical camps, while those seriously hurt were referred to Rajaji Government Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite tight security and precautionary measures, officials admitted that the inherent risks of the sport led to the mishap, even as young participants continued to showcase their bravery in the arena.
