Amid escalating anti-government protests in Iran that are increasingly turning violent, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a critical advisory to Indian nationals residing in the country. The embassy has urged Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin to remain highly vigilant and to leave Iran at the earliest using available means of transportation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has also released a separate advisory, clearly stating that all non-essential travel to Iran should be avoided until further notice. Given the rapidly changing local situation, the ministry has advised people to exercise utmost caution. In its official statement, the Indian Embassy in Iran has asked Indian nationals to stay away from areas witnessing protests and demonstrations, remain in regular contact with the embassy and keep their passports, identity cards and other travel and immigration documents ready. Those who have not yet registered with the embassy have been urged to do so immediately.
Reports indicate that the ongoing anti-government protests in Iran have intensified, resulting in the death of over 2,500 people so far. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is reported to have called for the continuation of these protests. In light of these developments, the Ministry of External Affairs has once again cautioned Indian citizens against traveling to Iran.
